I have been on a year long English and Balkan kick, and this is definitely not either. My suspicion is that this will age nicely, but only time will tell. My advice, quit your bellyaching and stump up the cash for this blend, you wont regret it and if you do theres going to be someone out there thatll happily take it off your hands. Anyone actually like Cornell and Diehl? If you find, as I did that this blend comes across as "cool", it's because it's an Oriental overload. I havent got my Folklore baccy yet. You snooze, you lose. While the nose is similar, the TASTE is not quite the same. The orientals provide a a good foundation for the flavor but I feel as if there is slightly too much latakia in here covering up the oriental and VA taste. Wonderful tin note of stone fruit, breads and allspice. C&D seems to be very hit and miss to me, however this blend far exceeds my expectations as far as balance and complexity goes. Cornell & Diehl Small Batch Palmetto Balkan is the first small batch release that comes in an 8oz can and is a blend of sun-cured 2018 Basma and 2019 Orientals with Carolina Red Virginias. But the prevalence of the cigar leaf isnt like what you find in Cloud Hopper or other cigar leaf blends. When you want quality at its finest where your pipe tobacco is concerned, Cornell & Diehl is the perfect choice. So does a very lightly applied fruity red wine-like essence. The underlying flavor very strongly reminds me of their Dreams of Kadath blend but a hair toned down on intensity and a little more woodsy. Tobacco is a Krumble Kake of marbled yellows, tans, browns, and a little black. I'm sure the naysayers will switch gears from crying about risk/reward to crying about the cost on the secondary market after they Small batch again, this time a huge risk as was Folklore, not great.
